Fort William

Fort William is around an hours drive from Loch Ness but it is well worth a visit while you are in the area, for those thinking about walking the Great Glen Way this will be you starting or ending point.

Fort William promotes itself as the outdoor capital of the UK and its hard to argue with that ben nevisas there are a huge number of outdoor activities available here. One of the most popular ones is mountain biking and the Mountain Bike world cup is held here. There is also quad biking, paint ball and a huge number of mountains for hill walkers. Among the mountains available is Ben Nevis which is the highest mountain in the whole of the UK.

If outdoor activities are not your thing then you will find plenty of shops in the town centre as well as popular tourist attractions such as the Ben Nevis Distillery and a museum in the town centre.

Well worth a visit is the Highland Games which is held here in July and offers you a chance to see traditional Scottish events such as Highland Dancing, Bag Piping and Caber tossing.
